meet the mats

“I LOVE my mat! Thank you so much. It’s spongy and stretchy and so pretty, I love the texture pattern, and it worked great for hot yoga right out of the bag with a towel.”- Nancy B.

Our mats
Lotuspads are beautiful, super thick, lightweight and soft, weighing in at a fraction of many other yoga mats. But there’s more to them than a pretty face. Meet the mats…

Embrace biodegradability
Lotuspad yoga mats are made from TPE (Thermoplastic elastomer), a newly developed and patented material that is PVC/latex-free, takes less energy to manufacture than standard yoga mats, and will biodegrade in a landfill or hot compost pile (PVC yoga mats never biodegrade).

Get grippy
While they are super portable and light, they stay put whether you practice on a hard studio floor or your soft carpet at home. We love the grip on our mats, which is heightened by unique surface patterns on either side. And since our mats are completely reversible, you can practice on whichever side is right for you. Does it need to be broken in? Some customers say yes, and some find the grip to be perfect right from the start. We do recommend that if you find your hands slipping a bit, practice a few times on the mat or try the alternate side.

Resist funk

Yes, our yoga mats have rich colors, cool organic surface patterns that improve traction, and are very lightweight, but one of the main reasons we love these mats so much is because they don’t get smelly like other yoga mats do. If you’ve ever rented a studio mat or left your sweaty yoga mat rolled up for a few days, you know that they can get downright funky! Communal yoga mats are also being linked to a host of medical problems such as bacterial and fungal infections.

Lotuspad yoga mats are made from super-high quality closed-cell Cellomer TPE, which resists moisture and prevents bacterial and fungal growth. We wanted to test this claim for ourselves so we did a little experiment. We used our sample mat for 31 hot, sweaty power yoga classes in 31 days and never wiped it down. Pretty gross, right? Amazingly the mat held up like a champ and never even got smelly. We also offer a wonderful smelling all-natural yoga mat wash from Seaside Naturals that will keep your mat clean and fresh smelling.

That new mat smell
Your mat will have a faint smell left over from the manufacturing process, but unlike many mats, it will disappear quickly once it’s out of it’s packaging. To speed up the process, simply wipe down your mat with water or a soap solution (We love Seaside Naturals yoga mat wash) and hang to dry. Wiping down your mat before practice will also eliminate the film which makes some mats slippery for the first couple of uses.

Our carry straps
Carry straps are not only a great hands-free way to transport your mat, they also solve the age-old “where to store the yoga mat” problem! Stop leaving your nice yoga mat on the floor – just hang it up on the coat rack or in your closet.

Our stylish carry straps are double sewn for beauty and sturdiness. We designed the straps to fit both our kids and adult mats. All straps measure 32” long and are made from 100% polyester grosgrain ribbon, which is quite sturdy and washable. Our hemp carry strap is strong and sturdy but will get softer with each wash with no fiber degradation. All straps are crafted in small batches in Massachusetts by a small family-owned tailor business.
