why eco yoga mats?

Behind the pretty face of that cheap yoga mat is an ugly truth.

pollutionMost yoga mats are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), one of the most hazardous consumer products ever created. Hugely polluting to manufacture and dispose of, PVC is also a known human carcinogen. The material used to soften PVC are filled with phlalates and other heavy metals. It is not biodegradable, and if burned, releases dioxin.

And even though it’s been largely banned in Europe and by progressive companies such as IKEA, PVC is still the most widely used material for yoga mats in the US.

If PVC is so toxic, why is it still being used in consumer products such as yoga mats? Well, it’s cheap. That’s about it.

Sure, that cute yoga mat only costs $20, but it’s cost to the health of the Earth is enormous. (It also feels sticky and icky if you ask us)

Lotuspad and other eco-friendly yoga mat makers believe that yoga products should be as good for the Earth as well as for our bodies. That’s why we’re proud to offer PVC-free biodegradable yoga mats and other eco-friendly yoga mat props.

Evolve beyond PVC. Namaste.
